Thinking About Writing a Book?
Visit Oskaloosa Author Fair to Meet Local Authors, Local Publisher

Several authors of books published by The Write Place in Pella, will be on hand during an Author Fair, from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, at Book Vault, 105 S. Market Street on the west side of the square in Oskaloosa.

Owned by Carol Van Klompenburg, The Write Place is a communications business specializing in writing, editing, web design, and graphic arts projects for clients both large and small. For several years, The Write Place also has been offering publishing services to writers who seek to become authors. These services can include proofing, editing, layout, interior design, cover design, as well as handling all the various publishing details including pricing, obtaining an ISBN number, getting listed on national book registries, and other services.

“So many people want to be an author but are stopped because they don’t understand the process and don’t want to handle all the details required to become published,” said Van Klompenburg. “The Write Place tailors our services to our clients. Some clients request help with the entire project—from proofing and editing, to layout and design. Other clients prefer to handle some of those details themselves and only need help with the publishing details. Whatever our clients need, we’re willing to step in and help them fulfill their dream to become a published author.”

Books published by The Write Place have included children’s books, biographies, poetry, memoirs, guidebooks, health books, and others.

Van Klompenburg will be on hand during the Author Fair to discuss publishing and also will be autographing some of the books she has authored. These include In Search of a Better Way: The Lives and Legacies of Gary and Matilda Vermeer; What to Do When You Can’t Do It All: Coming to Terms with Overcommitment; and When the Kids are Home from School: Summertime, Weekends, and Holiday Help for Mothers Who Work at Home or Away. In addition, Van Klompenburg will have copies of two of her recipe books featuring recipes from the Dutch tradition: Dutch Style Recipes; and Dandy Dutch Recipes.

Visitors to the Author Fair will also want to meet with other authors published by The Write Place. Jackie Van Wyk will be available to discuss and sign copies of her book, Timothy, the Rat-Tailed Cat. This children’s story is a true story for children about an adopted kitten. In addition to being a great story, this book also can be a springboard into family discussions about pets, adopted children, and people with special needs.

Author Mary Addink will be available to discuss her book, Treasury of Gems, which features short quotations collected by the author over 60 years. Filled with wisdom and humor, these sayings will encourage and enlighten you. Share your own favorite one-liners with her, and together enjoy the wit of these verbal gems.

The April 24th event is the first Author Fair held by the Book Vault. The book store plans another fair for local authors in August.
